Once again we are back in Ireland and this time we're headed to the Midleton Distillery, located in County Cork, Midleton. Instead of a lengthy introduction, dear readers, I'll guide you to the gentle embrace of Wikipedia. This is mainly due to a considerably tight time frame for producing this text, but of course, there's a bit of laziness involved as well.
Midleton produces several different whiskies, and today's glass holds Redbreast. It's a Single Pot Still whiskey, which means it utilizes 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley, it's distilled in one distillery and triple-distilled. The use of unmalted barley adds spiciness and an oilier mouthfeel to the whiskey.
The whiskey of the day is the cask-strength Redbreast 12-year-old, bottled at 57.6%. It has matured in both Bourbon and Oloroso Sherry casks. Labeled as B1/20, which to my knowledge, stands for Batch 1 from the year 2020.
