Today, we won't be introducing a distillery. The reason is quite evident; today, we're savoring blended whisky. This often underrated and even criticized whisky type, however, encompasses the majority of the world's best-selling whisky brands.
Yet, today offers a slightly more unique whisky, a blended malt to be specific. A blended malt is a whisky blend composed solely of single malt whiskies. This differs from blended whiskies (e.g., J&B) in that no grain whisky has been used. All the blended whiskies, on the other hand, incorporate whiskies from multiple distilleries.
As mentioned on the 14th day, Campbeltown whiskies are currently highly esteemed. This, coupled with quite small production, has led to an explosive surge in prices for some distilleries in the region. Today's whisky brings together the three distilleries from the area, featuring all five different malts in one bottle. The whisky has matured in Ex-Bourbon and Ex-Sherry casks, blended and bottled at Springbank Distillery. It is, of course, the Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, 46% ABV, and without an age statement.
