Advent Calendar 2023: Day 6

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

Happy Finnish Independence Day dear readers. While a Finnish whisky would have been fitting for this day, I opted for a Scottish dram with a small Finnish twist.

  • Today's whisky is Glenfarclas 105 for Suomi-Finland 1917-2022 Single Malt, bottled last year to celebrate Finland's 105th birthday. Bottles can still be found at Alko if this whisky piques your interest after reading this text.

Glenfarclas is one of the few family-owned distilleries in Scotland. It has been in the same family since 1865 when John Grant and his son George purchased the distillery from the estate of Robert Hay. In 2002, John L S Grant took over the leadership of the distillery and continues to guide it.

The distillery's core range includes the 105 Cask Strength, which was once the first commercially available cask strength single malt. Glenfarclas Suomi Finland 105 is a single cask malt whisky, matured in a sherry cask, distilled in March 2008, and bottled in June 2022. The whisky was matured in cask number 375 and was selected to commemorate Finland's independent journey. The batch size was 660 bottles, and this particular bottle is number 395. Its strength is 60%, matching the standard 105 Cask Strength whiskies.
