Advent calendar 2024: Day 1

December is here again! That also means it’s time to open the first window of this year’s whisky calendar. The hardest part of this whisky enthusiast’s job is already done, with all the bottling and distribution of the calendars. Now it’s time to focus on enjoying the anticipation of Christmas, one day and one whisky at a time.

The first whisky in this year’s calendar comes from the Isle of Mull, specifically from the Tobermory Distillery. It’s one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in Scotland. Established in 1798, the distillery has been closed several times throughout its history. It was originally founded by John Sinclair and has since had multiple owners, even going bankrupt once. The current owner, CVH Spirits, has been in charge since 2023.

However, tonight’s glass doesn’t contain whisky under the Tobermory name. Instead, it’s the distillery’s peated product, Ledaig. This evening’s whisky was first released in 2007 and has since become a highly praised core range product among whisky enthusiasts. It is, of course, the 10-year-old Ledaig bottling.
